Inspiration Monday..And Back To High School Again?...

Hello everyone..I hope that everyone is enjoying their long weekend! I went to the mall this weekend with the kids since it rained, and we had a play day at the mall. Once the kids were done playing we decided to get shakes, as we always do..and while we were sitting down drinking our shakes I started to listen to the workers talk... There was a boy that walked up to the counter in a pikachu hoodie, cowboy hat, big baggy pants, he had long straggly blonde hair, and he was carrying a pikachu huge stuffed animal at his side. My opinion of this was whatever makes him happy to wear is his choice.. and I could see that he was very shy and timid, probably from being made fun of all the time. The whole group of workers were of course making fun of him as he walked away, laughing, making comments, etc. This boy had no clue of the things that were being said of him, and I am sure they had fun making fun of me as well as I was in this outfit at the mall, and I am loosing my hair everywhere. My blog is my way of expressing my creativity with my clothes as my art if you will. My outfits are crazy, unique, and sometimes out there...but I don't care because this is who I am, and I am not afraid anymore to take the risk. Why is it that a good bit of society act like this? Can they not see the hurt that they cause someone to feel after tormenting, and teasing someone?  I mean we all have been to high school with the cliques etc. and we all know who the bullies, the popular, nerds, etc were, so you know what I mean. I don't know what any of you were in high school, but for me I was just there..I wasn't in the popular group, or any other groups and  I never got the chance to even be voted to be homecoming queen etc..because I wasn't in the "popular" group. I think it would have been nice to see some of the other girls in the school up for a shot at the tittle instead of the same group of popular girls, or it would have been nice to see the same group of people not bully around the same boy just because he is different. I had a class with a boy in high school and everyday in that class he was picked on so horribly. The one day he sat in tears, and my heart hurt for him so I sat and talked to him because I just felt so bad. That boy had a great heart, and yes, was different but there is nothing wrong with that..sometimes it is good to be different. Oftentimes we don't realize how our words and actions affect others, nor do some people care. It makes me sad to look at my children and realize what they will be facing in school, and that society is still like this. I just hope that my kids will be leaders.

Yes I know that I don't look nearly as pretty, or have long pretty flowing hair (mostly because I am loosing all of my hair!), or those cute pants, or that skinny...not yet anyway...
I do like this look a lot, and it is totally something I would wear as the skinnier me...I will get there!

Have a great day everyone!

  1. Heather, I was right there with ya in that school. And yes it was horrible and everything was a Popularity contest. I always tried to just be friendly with everyone. Whether that worked or not. Just Glad We all got through it!

STOP PUTTING YOUR SELF DOWN! It annoys the crap out of me when girls do that! Your gorgeous and always have been.

  3. I think you look fabulous! The great thing about differences is that not everyone needs to be skinny or have long, flowing hair. I think I was lucky in high school that we didn't have very distinct cliques. Of course, the popular kids were the athletes and cheerleaders, but I think that is the norm. Many of those kids (at least the girls, anyway) were in advanced or gifted classes, so they couldn't call anyone "nerd". It was actually valued at my school to be different, and sometimes those kids who were very different were the most popular. (side note: I went to a performing arts school, and I think that lends itself to being diverse.)

  4. You look fab Heather, much better than Jessica, love the whole ensemble and the individual piece!! I love your hair!
And I agree with everything you said. I've always stood aloof from any one group and tried to get on with everyone (I was awarded the 'Miss Ecumenical' award on an orchestra holiday) even now, as an adult. I've always felt bad for the ones who are picked on and those boys, like the one you mentioned, in primary school invited me to their birthday parties. Still, even so, I really wish I'd made more effort to actually make them feel appreciated and valued!

  6. That was so sweet! I also wasn't in the popular crowd in high school and looking back on it now, I'm actually glad that was the case. I was able to make friends that have the same AND different interests than mine and I'm still friends with most of them now after graduation! Personally, I think you look amazing in that outfit! Those boots are spectacular!
I'm thrilled to be your newest follower and would love it if you could return the follow if you get the chance and wish to :)

  7. I also tend to wear clothes that are a little out there. My husband even looks at my outfit choices askance, but he's learned to accept them. People will always point, and make fun, and comment, but I choose to think that it's not so bad if you wear something that makes people stare--it's better than being invisible!
Still, people should, in general, be mature enough to not make fun of others! It's wrong.

  16. Weighing in as a guy. Heather, you look FINE(in every sense of the word)! If anyone was talking about you behind your back in the mall it was only because they were jealous. You would definitely get a second or third look from me if I saw you in the mall.
I agree with Matt (comment #1) You don't need to put yourself down. There is nothing there to put down. You keep doing what you are doing - being yourself. let all those other folks, the "popular" ones, continue to look like one another because they think they are cool. Well the only reason they don't talk about the looks of their friends is because then they would be making commentary about themselves.
    Peace+

  17. Don't be so hard on yourself. I agree with you that being different is a good thing-great actually because it's the very thing that sets us apart in a society where everyone is trying to be like someone. And btw, your outfit is fierce. I would totally rock this!
